The Dad Lunch That Doesn’t Wreck Your Afternoon
A practical lunch framework for steady energy when you have meetings, pickups, and no time for a food spreadsheet.
Stop making lunch a willpower test
The best workday lunch is not a punishment meal. It is one that keeps you full, alert, and ready to train or handle the evening shift without raiding the pantry at 4 p.m.
Build the plate
- Protein: two palm-sized servings of chicken, turkey, eggs, Greek yogurt, beans, or whatever you will actually eat.
- Produce: at least one big handful of vegetables or fruit. Frozen vegetables count.
- Carbs: a fist of rice, potatoes, oats, fruit, or whole-grain bread—especially on training days.
- Fat and flavor: olive oil, avocado, nuts, salsa, or a sauce you enjoy. Make it satisfying enough to repeat.
Pack it the night before if your morning is chaos. Keep a backup in the office: tuna packets, jerky, fruit, nuts, and instant oatmeal work better than skipping lunch.
Why this matters
Energy is a dad skill. Feed yourself like someone who wants patience for bedtime and enough pop to play after dinner.
